Hear & Overcome

Join us this summer as we take a closer look at the letters to seven churches in Revelation 2 and 3. The seven churches, in the diversity of all their strengths and deformities, are representative of all churches throughout history. These little letters function like a diagnostics manual to help us evaluate the health of the church, and they are applicable to us in as much as we resemble any one of them. Christ, the head of the church himself, speaks to each assembly and he points to many signs of health but he also points out certain ailments. Then, like a divine physician, writes his prescription and leaves his patients with serious warnings and bright promises. Despite the differences between these churches and the unique set of circumstances in which they found themselves, Christ calls each of them to faithfulness. Each church is like a colony of heaven, responsible to represent Christ and his kingdom. And it’s that responsibility—that high calling—that thrusts the church into conflict with the world. There is no more important time for the church to patiently hear, and having heard we will overcome.
