The Power of God in the Power of the Gospel

The church is afflicted by many pressures without and blighted by much compromise within. But at the bottom of it all there seems to be a major loss of confidence in the gospel. The cultural whiplash of the world has left some disillusioned, some discouraged, some disoriented, and some even disloyal. We’re anything but confident. We don’t believe, as we once did, in the power of God and so we employ all manor of natural means by human power and the gospel continues to be revoiced, repackaged, and revised a thousand times over. However, our confidence was never finally anchored in the stability of our society, the approval of our culture, or the comforts and peaceful tranquility of western evangelicalism. All of that can change, is changing, and soon to collapse.
